Pros and cons of Car Audio Deck app for iPhone and iPad

Car Audio Deck app good for

Big, wonderfully design buttons. Simple, ease of use, great for "trembling" fingers while in the car! Love everything! Gooooood jobs people: At last an App for us car drivers! Note: the setup panel in the iPhone/iPod settings icon
I mount my iPhone on my dash and just got this app and tried it out today and really like it. Very beautiful. Works great!
Need to be improve . Cant wait to see more option like : random song selection . Keep it up developer
This is a very good app. I would like "random" function and a "black and red" face plate to look good in my Mazda 6. Also, maybe put the big volume button optional when using the dock port (volume on the steering wheel). Thanks.
I like that the buttons are large and the playlist text size is big enough to see while driving so I can keep my eyes on the road.
This app does exactly what I needed it for. Mounted iPhone touch in front of my cd/cassette deck. Looks and works great and transfers between my cars. I have a few suggestions to make it awesome though; -Track Progess bar would be good -Track info/name should scroll instead of showing "..." -Track info area could be larger, or smaller text showing artist and song at the same time. -Actual Time (instead of "pause") would be a nice option when music not playing

Some bad moments

I down loaded this app yesterday and tried it on my deck and it didnt work at all. :(
I just set up my iPhone in my car and this works perfectly as a deck! Very simple and nice.
First off, this works with my iTunes match songs so thats a major plus. Ive wasted too much money on apps that are good but will only work on music thats downloaded to my device. So thats good. As far as everything else goes..well the menus are bad...if you search by artist, when you select an artist it doesnt list the albums..only ALL of the tracks in..alphabetical order! Nooooo this is no bueno and a deal breaker for me. Also when a song is playing you can only access the tracklist for the artist but not anything else, you have to pause it in order to get to anything else. The scrolling is way too fast..Im not nitpicking here, because I can scroll through 5000+ songs by moving my finger less than halfway down the screen..not good :(..I LOVE the layout of the now playing screen, its just what Id expect from a normal deck. Song and artist info. Thats a plus. When you search by albums also, it does not list the artist name with the album. Hopefully these things can be fixed, Ill update my rating accordingly and for now Ill continue to fumble with my stock music player for now.
This app has one of the better interfaces Ive seen for using in the car, and Ive probably tried 10 similar apps. There are a couple of things that I would like to see improved or added. First, it doesnt respect playlist hierarchy in your iTunes playlists. You just get a flat listing of all the playlists. Many other third party music apps behave the same way, so I dont know if that is an Apple limitation or not. The program also sorts differently than iTunes. Playlists that begin with a number show up at the bottom of the list, not the top as they do in iTunes. I sometimes put a space at the beginning of a playlist name to move it to the top of the list. This works in iTunes but not this program. The biggest limitation for me is that there is no way to select which output device to send the audio to within the program. The output selector (little upward pointing arrow next to the fast forward button in the stock music app) is missing. So if I plug the iPhone into my car audio dock and then turn on my bluetooth handsfree (which causes the bluetooth handsfree to take over the connection), I cant redirect the audio to the car dock without exiting the program. There seem to be two kinds of third party audio apps in the app store. Those which load your music library into their own database and then operate independently from the stock music app, and those which are basically just a skin running over the top of the stock music app. These later apps dont appear to keep their own database and use the stock music app to actually play the audio. This app falls into that category. In fact, if you double click the home button and swipe the bottom bar right to see the music controls, the icon for the stock music app appears as the app which is playing audio. The gist of this discussion is that I dont know what limits the developer has regarding the reading for the database, so I dont know if he can address my sorting issues. However, Im pretty sure the output selector can be added if he chooses to do so.
This is buggy (at least on my original iPad). The play button does not always turn into a pause button, leaving me no way to stop the music aside from force-quitting the app. And the display doesnt always keep up with the actual song info when I skip forward. Its also not quite intuitive. I shouldnt have to read the app store description to figure out how to access music and playlists and change the faceplate. I dont know why I have to go to the iOS settings panel instead of the app itself to set some of the options. Then, when I simply *looked* at the settings, without changing anything, the behavior changed to "pause upon close," whereas it had been playing the whole time before I visited the settings. The audiobook playlist shows the name of the track and the artist, but not the book name (lots of "Track 1" files). Other lists show song title and album, but not artist. Playlists dont nest into folders the same way you have them set up in iTunes. For me, a car audio app should accept gesture commands so that you dont have to look at the screen while driving. In my opinion FlickTunes is a much better app for this purpose. But Im still waiting for the perfect iOS music player, in and out of the car.
Nice interface, unfortunate you cant play through albums in artist search, only option is an alphabetical list of all songs from that artist. Some Bluetooth bugs, I have a Bluetooth headset connected, cant play through speakers and no way to select Bluetooth device to output to. When playing a song whos title is too long for the screen, just shows "..." at the end, would be nice if it scrolled through the full title. If some work is put into these faults, could easily be a 5 star app. Looking forward to future updates and I will adjust my review accordingly.
